Tom Dompe's Custom Beechcraft
To start, this isn't your run of the mill Beechcraft "V" tail. The power plant is a 285HP turbo-charged Continental that really makes the airspeed indicator run in the yellow whenever Tom lowers the hammer. Mr. Dompe and Kevin have been planning this installation for months and finally, the aircraft is coming apart, you'll see those shots next week.
All of the present avionics is coming out of the aircraft with the exception of the King KFC-200 autopilot and the King KCS-55A HSI. The present HSI will be used in the number two nav. position. We will be installing a Garmin GNS 530 GPS/ILS/COM/Color Moving MAP, a GNS 430 GPS/ILS/COM/Color Moving Map, a GMA 340 Audio/ICS/Marker Panel, a GTX 327 Digital Transponder. A Davtron M-800 clock will tell Tom when it's time to eat or switch fuel tanks and the JPI FS-450 fuel flow system will tell him how much fuel his big engine is burning. The FS-450 fuel flow will be integrated with the Garmin GNS 530. For a primary HSI, Mr. Dompe elected to have us install a Sandel SN-3308 EHSI that will display both the GNS 530 and GNS 430. The panel could use some rework thus Mr. Dompe decided to let us fabricate new instrument panels, this way he gets the instruments placed where he wants them.
This should be quite a project and somewhat different than our usual custom installations. When you look at this old panel the first thing that jumps out at you is the "purple" glareshield. It must be a "Harley Thing", see Mr. Dompe rides and builds custom Harley motorcycles. I'll work on him with regards to the colors. Check this page often, whenever something happens I can take a pic of, I'll be sure to place it on the website.
